The sacrilege produces a religious civil war in which Lyone's forces and the Americans are pitted against the armies of the outraged King. A great naval battle between White's ship and the fleet of Atvatabar appears to be lost when the tide is turned by the arrival of British and American warships, who have followed White in search of the lost expedition.
